Update II - 12/23/2011

Oh, and just for the curious, a revised sorta list of the things I have planned:

The Kingdom of Vo'Stora (Currently working on)
The Kingdom of Llunia
(The third and last part of the series, 99% sure on the name but not giving it yet)

じゃが芋の島 - ISLAND OF FOREVER EVIL FIGHTERS (Started on, not completed)

After I finish Vo'Stora, I'll either work on The Kingdom of Llunia or finish Island of Forever Evil Fighters (it's a spoof game, so don't mind the title!), it just depends on how I feel after i wrap up Vo'Stora.  I may finish it first just for some variety.  I'm also currently in the process of re-upping the old website for a more steady source of info for all those, just for game details and releases and downloads and such.  I'll always keep this for blog posts, though!

Update - 12/23/2011

So, with the holidays around the corner, I haven't had a ton of time to work on things, but I'm in the process of finalizing the opening parts of Vo'stora.  I think I know what parts of the game I want v0.1 to contain, so considering that, a release is still a few weeks off.  However, I should have a test version  that contains half of that which I'll distribute for feedback purposes to make sure things flow properly!  I've been a little more detail oriented from the getgo, while Kingdom of Llunia got more so as time went on.. so things are going a little slower than they used to.

I don't want to release the defunct Kingdom of Llunia v0.8 without playtesting things to make sure the pre-release stuff I made isn't super buggy or poorly written, so once I play through that I'll go ahead and upload the final version of that for everyone.  Just don't get too confused on the story since some of that will obviously change when I remake it in the future.

The Kingdom of Vo'Stora - Characters

Victoria
Able to see pieces of the future through her dreams, she uses these visions to help and to protect Treyes and her village.  As an herbalist, she uses her skill to heal her comrades and inflict poisons on enemies, using various herbs she can collect or purchase as a reagent.

Treyes
Childhood friend of Matthias and a aspiring Knight, Treyes and Victoria are best friends, though those of the village are convinced it's much more than just a simple friendship.  He aims to become a knight in order to protect both Victoria and their village, and is also the village hunter.

Matthias
Growing up in the same village as both Victoria and Treyes, he's a few years older, was the best friend of Treyes, and the focus of Victoria's affection until he and his family left the village one night without notice.  His departure sent much confusion through the village, and his whereabouts are unknown.

Sara
The protector and huntress of a remote village, Sara works day and night to protect her people and ward off any and all intruders.  She's an expert with the bow, and can dabble in herbalism to help add various poisons to her arrow tips.

Meridia
Living her life in seclusion and in study, she's the daughter of a line of Elemental Sages who have lost their ability to use magic.  She works with her mother in finding a way to restore elemental magic to the world in a way that won't repeat the previous disasters caused by such abilities.

Caitlynn
A well-known knight and general of the Kingdom of Xa'Vian, she carries out the duties given to her by her King.  The fact that the kingdoms are at a stable peace means she spends more time doing research to aid King Xa'Vian's projects than actual combat.  She lives with her long time boyfriend, a renown researcher, Samuel.

Paulus
A lancer for one of the smaller northern kingdoms, Paulus is a free spirited and light hearted soldier who longs to see the world and learn of its mysteries.

Anyway, those are the playable characters  which will be available for The Kingdom of Va'Stora, and brief backgrounds on their history and an idea of the types of skills they'll be bringing to battles.  I'll have screenies of the battle system soon, also, which won't be anything you haven't seen before, and a v0.1 release in a few weeks.

The Kingdom of Llunia v0.8 Release (Finally!)

So, although the old Kingdom of Llunia is essentially defunct, I did want to release a final of v0.8 since it already exists.  I want to fine tune it, so if anyone who has completed the prerelease 2 can give their feedback on what needs to be changed or fixed ( if anything ) that'd be appreciated!  Or you can send me a save file and I can double check some things myself.  I just want it to be wrapped up nicely without too many bugs or loose ends before I make it publicly available.

The Kingdom of Vo'Stora

Through designing the story for the project I'm on, it hit me that this will be designed as the first in a three part series, where the story of Kingdom of Llunia falls as the second in the series.  The first title in the series is being worked on now, and the opening part is almost complete.  The title will be "The Kingdom of Vo'Stora".

While this may sound confusing, my design for Llunia (the one i actually released) was quite different than the original concept.  The story of Veronica and Riault weren't in the original story I had come up with, and as the new story progressed I started having doubts on how their story would disrupt the long term focus of the story I was trying to tell.  So, I'm falling back on the original story of Llunia- that being said, the basis of the story and the main protagonists will stay intact, though Veronica and Riault's roles will exist in a different 'form' so to speak, and I believe the overall story will make more sense and be told better doing it this way.

Essentially, the first game which I'm working on now will set up the story for The Kingdom of Llunia, which is the second part, and this will be more noticeable towards the very end of the current project for those who played through what bits of Llunia i had made.

Let me outline some differences between the release KoL Story and the new direction:

  • The characters Veronica and Riault will be removed from the story all together, as will certain other minor characters who were in KoL.
  • The elemental orb mechanism to open the gate to the Void in KoL will be taken out of the story, and the world will have more than one 'crystal' connected to it.
  • Picture the new KoL story as Caitlynn, Nero, Lucindea, and Sereni working to protect the crystals from Llunia directly as opposed to them rushing to obtain the orbs.
  • The new first part will have many parallels to the old KoL story, probably more for me than for others since I didn't share the whole story with everyone else, and while there are different characters and a different world, you may see some things that are intentionally familiar as the two games do tie in together.  The new Llunia will have the same 4 main characters and won't be drastically different in concept except for the parts after which I made available anyways.. so no worries!  Besides, the ideas listed above were part of the original idea, and to avoid the idea from becoming too confusing I've split it into three parts.

In a few days I'll post a little character and places list which will have a basic description of each character, who they are, their specialties, and some areas available to explore.   Feel free to share any concerns or ideas!

More Stuff Ahead!

So, as I continue to do balancing work on v0.8, I figure I'll post a few random little tidbits of info!  Once Llunia (and the other game) are finished, I plan on posting a walkthrough for both of them.  While I doubt it's needed, I have always gotten e-mails for help on the same areas, and some secrets that I plan on putting in while be very difficult to figure out and require a bit of investigative work in-game as well as some good guesses.  I realize not everyone likes to use walkthroughs of course!  But I don't plan on making one available for a few months after I'm totally done.

As I mentioned earlier, the other game is in a playable state, but I'll add a little more before I make a little demo of it available.  I have two other ideas lined up as well, but they won't be messed with until Llunia is done.
